The Distributed Energy (DE) team develops, invests in, and delivers distribution-connected solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in North America. The DE team offers the full spectrum of BESS and PV+BESS solutions – from integrated ESS hardware and software, project development and investment to asset management and operations.

Position Overview
Project Managers contribute to and manage the full life cycle of Distributed Energy, Commercial & Industrial solar + energy storage projects ranging in size from 500kW to 20MW. The PM provides visibility to management and appropriate stakeholders on the status of each project and must communicate technical concepts both internally and externally. Project Managers will ensure success by managing all aspects of the entire scope of a given project. They should have strong problem-solving skills, people & team management skills, and be able to work independently to push tasks to completion. The Project Manager reports to the Director of Engineering & Delivery, or another member of senior leadership as determined by the President of Q CELLS or a delegate. This position will work remotely, or from our Teaneck, NJ office (if local) and requires flexibility to support travel for multiple projects in various geographical regions, anticipated to be 10% of the year, with a potential of travel up to 20% of the year. This role is based out of our New Jersey office; however for the right candidate, this role can also be remotely based out of CT, NY, RI, or MA.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the deployment, engineering, procurement and construction of multiple solar + energy storage projects.
  • Generate effective reports for company management on the status, progress, and relevant issues of the various solar + energy storage projects.
  • Work with subcontractors and EPC’s to obtain cost estimates to support Sales.
  • Prequalify subcontractors.
  • Create bid packages, analyze bids, and award contracts.
  • Write and negotiate contracts from Qcells templates.
  • Manage contractors in support of project goals.
  • Produce detailed, logic-based schedules for each project.
  • Work with our Project Management Solution software.
  • Create budgets and control costs within those budgets.
  • Project safety is of paramount importance and the PM will enhance our safety culture at the project level.
  • Work with many internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects have achievable scope and timeline requirements.
  • Coordinate key activities necessary to result in on-time project delivery within budget, including technical design, equipment specification, procurement, and appropriate software controls applications.
  • Coordinate with the Engineering, Procurement, and Business Development teams to maintain continued alignment with high-level company objectives and workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Engineering, Management, architecture, or another related engineering science is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of project management experience working on commercial projects with an excellent track record of achievement in renewable energy companies.
  • An understanding of power systems, electrical grid & smart grid concepts.
  • Self-motivated, independent professional with excellent communication skills, strong technical aptitude, and the ability to thrive under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and push tasks to completion.
  • Proven ability to work in a team-oriented environment, providing support to team members, and establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with coworkers across functional areas.
  • Experience working with project management software platforms.
  • Self-motivated, independent professional with excellent communication skills, strong technical aptitude, and the ability to thrive under pressure.
  • Prepared to travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Contractor License holder in one or more of these states: CT, GA, MA, CA.
  • Experience, interest in, and general knowledge of the energy industry, especially the solar and energy storage sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple parallel projects and prioritize competing demands.
  • Experience working with project management software platforms.
