About this role:

This is a hybrid role (3 days a week onsite) in Houston, TX.

At Heliogen we are using technology to cost-effectively replace fossil fuels and solve the world’s CO2 problem. We are looking for a Senior Buyer for Projects to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to help fight climate change. The purpose of this position is to effectively manage large, complex supplier procurement activities and cross-functional relationships ensuring best practice purchasing techniques are applied. In addition, this role will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of strategic sourcing activities to ensure Project success and achieve time to market and increased penetration of Heliogen’s concentrated solar power technology.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead negotiations with suppliers for complex purchases, including development of negotiation strategies, negotiation of pricing and schedule, and resolution of Terms & Conditions in coordination with Project and Legal
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness targets are achieved eradicating and/or escalating problems efficiently both internally and externally to minimize impact on our business
  • Attends project status meetings, when requested, and reports status of area of responsibility
  • Accountable to ensure appropriate approval authorities are obtained prior to executing commitments
  • Act as the supplier interface for supplier pre-qualifications, bid solicitations, bid analysis, award as recommendations and commitments, including aspects of purchase order administration
  • Manage cost aggressively to ensure adherence to project-specific budgets and forecasts
  • Accountable for the integrity of records management for assigned work
  • Understands and executes work in accordance with the sourcing strategy, compliance to the Approved Suppliers List, project financing considerations, and respective tariff and quota risk
  • Accountable for integrity of records management for assigned work and for ensuring supplier master data within MRP is accurate
  • Develop and foster cross-functional relationships to ensure all business goals are aligned

What’s essential:

  • Located in the Houston, TX area and willing to visit the office 3-4 days per week
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related subject and a minimum of 7 years progressive related experience including but not limited to, Procurement/Subcontracts, preferably in an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) or Oil & Gas environments
  • In lieu of a Degree, a minimum of 12 years of progressive related experience including but not limited to, Procurement/Subcontracts, preferably in an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) or Oil & Gas environments
  • Strong knowledge of contract structures, contract negotiations, and contract implementation
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical skills: MS Excel proficient, financial modeling preferred
  • Proven ability to onboard and contract pricing agreements with suppliers
  • Material Requirement Planning (MRP) and/or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems experience
  • Experience in sourcing from a global supply base using various contractual models
  • Ability to influence actions/decisions of internal stakeholders, as well as suppliers
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Able to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally (when the current environment permits)

Desirable:

  • Oracle Experience
  • Prior experience in rapid rapid-growth environment
  • CPM, CSCP certification, or equivalent
  • Project Management Experience
  • Past support in lump sum (competitive and open book) and cost-reimbursable scopes
  • Experience in the formation, bid, evaluation award, and administration of major equipment purchases and subcontracts ranging from $1M to $30M in value
  • Additional Procurement / Supply Chain experiences (expediting, traffic & logistics, field purchasing, etc.)
