ZeroAvia is a leader in zero-emission aviation, flying the world’s largest hydrogen-electric aircraft since September 2020. Our focus is the design and commercialization of hydrogen-powered aviation solutions to address a variety of markets, initially targeting short-haul, sub-regional commercial flights up to 500 miles. To date, ZeroAvia has secured the UK CAA and FAA experimental permit to fly for its 6 seat aircraft powered by hydrogen-electric powertrain, passed significant flight tests, and is on track for commercial deliveries by 2023. Its achievements to date were rewarded by the UK prime minister by inviting ZeroAvia as a member to the UK Jet Zero Council.

ZeroAvia’s powertrain development focuses on tightly integrating H2 Fuel Cell power systems and storage, along with electric drivetrain components, to deliver a unified solution that is both environmentally friendly and economically superior to traditional aircraft drivetrain solutions.

Role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated System Reliability Systems Engineer to join our Electric Propulsion Team at ZeroAvia. As a System Reliability Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of our electric propulsion systems for hydrogen-electric aircraft. You will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and researchers, working on innovative technologies to propel the aviation industry towards a greener and more sustainable future.

  • Reliability Analysis: Conduct reliability analysis and modelling of electric propulsion systems to identify potential failure modes, assess system reliability, and improve system performance.
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA): Lead FMEA activities to analyse critical system components, evaluate failure risks, and devise effective mitigation strategies to enhance overall system reliability.
  • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA): Develop and perform FTA to identify potential system failure scenarios and their root causes, enabling proactive measures to prevent or minimize their impact.
  • Reliability Testing: Collaborate with test engineers to design reliability test plans, define test cases, and analyse test results to validate system reliability and assess product performance under various operating conditions.
  • Predictive Maintenance: Develop predictive maintenance strategies to optimize system uptime, anticipate potential failures, and implement condition-based maintenance practices for the electric motor and associated components.
  • Reliability Reporting: Prepare and present reliability reports and recommendations to management and cross-functional teams, highlighting key performance indicators and proposed improvements.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct in-depth root cause analyses of system failures and incidents, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence and improve system robustness.
  • Collaborative Design Review: Participate in design reviews and work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate reliability requirements into the design and development process.
  • Reliability Standards and Best Practices: Stay current with industry best practices, standards, and guidelines related to reliability engineering, applying this knowledge to enhance ZeroAvia's electric motor system reliability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience as a System Reliability Engineer, preferably with exposure to complex systems in the aviation, aerospace, or automotive industry.
  • Solid understanding of electric propulsion systems, electric motors, power electronics, and related components.
  • Proficiency in reliability analysis techniques, such as FMEA, FTA, reliability block diagrams, and reliability prediction methods.
  • Experience with reliability testing and data analysis tools is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of hydrogen fuel cell technology and its impact on system reliability is a plus
